OUTDOOR INDUSTRY WORKFORCE ASSESSMENT

OVERVIEW

Join fellow outdoor industry employers in taking the Outdoor Industry Workforce Assessment Survey, a collaborative research effort by the Outdoor Industry Association and the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, in partnership with Oregon State University's Center for the Outdoor Recreation Economy.

This entirely voluntary survey will be used to gather information about industry needs for workforce development and diversity, equity, and inclusion advancement. 

This is not an assessment of which individual companies are doing well or falling short in these areas. The survey is simply designed to give companies, associations, and educators a deeper understanding of the industry's workforce development needs and DEI practices.

By participating, you will help us establish benchmarks and set the stage for ongoing evaluation of progress on key issues. Together, we can use this assessment as an important step toward a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive outdoor industry.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THE SURVEY?

We are calling on the leadership and management teams of companies and organizations in the outdoor recreation industry to take this employer survey. This includes nonprofit organizations and for-profit companies of all sizes.

Consider assembling a small committee including leaders from HR, DEI, People & Culture, and management/executive teams. We also recommend including leaders from various departments and employee resources groups who can provide a holistic perspective on the needs of your organization.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are not part of your company's leadership and management team, but you believe your organization should participate in the survey, please share this website with your manager or team leader. 


WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW BEFORE STARTING THE SURVEY?
  1. To better understand workforce needs and trends, this survey will ask about various characteristics of your company. Specifically, we are requesting information about the employee and skill needs for your company or organization, along with your current and future efforts and goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  2. No specific business or organization will be spotlighted as a result of this survey. Instead, the goal is to create an accurate picture of workforce needs, goals and efforts across the industry and within major sectors.

  3. Your individual submission will not be shared publicly. Data will be shared in aggregate for the purpose of highlighting industry-level trends. Your selections and responses will not be directly tied to you or your organization.

  4. You can expect this survey to take 30-45 minutes if all the relevant information is close at hand. You can also save your answers and continue at a later time, if necessary.

  5. The deadline to complete the survey is September 30, 2021.

WHY ARE WE ASKING FOR YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION TO ACCESS THE SURVEY?

We are requesting contact information in order to ensure that participants are affiliated with existing outdoor organizations. In addition, your contact information will allow Oregon State, OIA, and ORR to send reminders, progress updates, and the final report once completed. Your contact information will not be shared or sold.
